Wedding heels: the verdict

IMG_9555_vintage

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for: which pair of shoes did Megan select for her wedding?

Pins and needles, I tell you. You’ve barely gotten any sleep, right? But after my original post with my three main choices for heels, I ordered the top two — Nos. 2 and 3 — and waited (im)patiently for them to arrive from Zappos. Once I’d ripped into that box, I nervously unwrapped each and began inspecting them. They both looked great.

Ordering “the perfect shoes” for our big day has been a source of anxiety. Like so many aspects of my attire, I want to look great but don’t want to be uncomfortable. Finding a red heel with a peep toe that wasn’t too high was my goal, and both of these shoes came through. But once I tucked my tootsies into each and walked the hallway in a circuit long enough to really befuddle my golden retriever, eyeballing my progress around the downstairs in very loud shoes, one pair was the clear choice.

So which was it?

. . . pair No. 2!

While I love the look of the bows and the sheen of pair No. 3, my toes were squished in those babies. They have a higher heel — one that would put me at eye level with my fiance (weird!) — but, most critically, they were not easy to walk in. I didn’t feel stable in them — and as Spencer pointed out, I apparently didn’t look stable in them, either.

On the contrary, the second pair are very sturdy; as I strutted around, I lacked the “newborn foal” wobbly legs associated with the bow heels. I do wear heels to work and am used to fancy shoes, but some are just better than others. With so many things being equal (price, color, style), I had to choose the pair that felt the most comfortable . . . and that was definitely pair No. 2.

Done! Decision made! I love nipping my weird anxieties in the bud and just getting things done. I adore crossing wedding-related items off my list, especially when they’re things I’ve been worrying about, and always feel so great having just made up my mind.

Now to decide on jewelry . . .

  1. I liked pair 2 best before I even saw them on you, and when I saw both pairs on I still liked them best – so I’m glad they turned out to be the comfy pair! 🙂

  2. They look great! My advice? Wear them around the house a little more before the big day just to break them in a little more and feel comfortable in them.

    • Very true, Kristin — and important! I definitely plan to wear them to an upcoming bridal appointment and actually walk around for a while, then rock ’em indoors before the big day to break them in a bit. Hopefully they’ll be extra comfy at that point!

  3. The photo shows the squished look and they gaped at the heel. You made the right choice, comfort must win over all 🙂

  4. Adorable! I envy you your comfy wedding shoes. I still have scars from where my shoes cut into my feet from my wedding in May. And I even broke them in first! For jewelry, I recommend etsy, (if youre poor like me and not going the real diamond and gold route, haha). I found the perfect pair of wedding earrings for not a lot of money. Good luck in the last months of planning! Just remember, there’s a light at the end of the wedding planning tunnel.

    • Eek! Scars?! I had a really rough go with footwear at a friend’s wedding years back, and I was definitely the Barefoot Bridesmaid on the dance floor that night!

So right about Etsy — I have a wishlist of pearls as we speak. 🙂 So glad you found the perfect earrings at a good price . . . I’m hoping I have the same luck!

      • They’re not serious scars, but the marks are still there! We got married, had pictures, and threw the reception all outside at the Desert Botanical Gardens, where there are tiny rocks everywhere to step on, so I had to keep my shoes on unfortunately. And the wedding was behind schedule so we had to run all over the place to keep the light. I bought a comfy pair of flip flops to change into and those somehow cut me too. I just have bad luck with shoes! I’m sure yours will work out great. They’re super cute by the way 🙂
