So. Given my anglophilia and general love of babies and happiness, I’m a wee bit excited over the arrival of William and Kate’s son. My family was in London just a week before their wedding in April 2011, a time laced with excitement and sunshine. I wish I could have hopped a flight to linger outside Buckingham Palace waiting for the royal decree with so many well-wishers on Monday but, alas, I’m a desk-bound American with no funds or vacation time save what she’s using for her own upcoming nuptials.
Still, a peasant can dream.
In honor of the Royal Prince (is he a prince already? Must Google), I’m revisiting my favorite photos from trips to English trips in 2009 and 2011 today. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: London is the city of my heart. My heart hurts a bit looking at these, remembering how exhilarating it was to walk around Trafalgar Square or along the Thames . . . some of my happiest days have been spent in London. I really must get back there. For a day, for a week — I don’t know. But I have to go.
And I really must go find myself a scone.
Oh, I so want to go to London again! But although it is way nearer and cheaper for me, I cannot pay for it either at the moment 😉 So I will dream with you.

You are right, London is AMAZING. When I was a newly married, I had a job assignment over there for 2 months. Can you imagine??? I was in heaven. Now all the royal mania, I find it all a bit crazy. My mom has been chirping for the last few days about this baby, and she has been getting lots of eyerolls from me!

No, Sandy, I cannot imagine. I would never want to come home. I mean, don’t get me wrong — I’m very proud to be an American — but seriously? London? THE BEST.

You take the best photos! I love London but Paris and New York are the cities that have my heart.

I’m dying to see Paris, Kathy — in fact, that was on my shortlist for honeymoon destinations . . . but Spence wants to visit somewhere neither of us have ever been (he went as a teen). Perhaps in 2015? Haha! (I do like to plan ahead.)

100% agree with all those
comments ! And I do want a scone… but here in Cevennes, France, I can’t see nothing which looks like those delicious “gâteaux”…

Thank you for posting such beautiful pictures of London. I’ve been there and absolutely loved it. Could you hear William Shakespeare’s words as you walked around the Globe Theater? Just walking around the streets transforms you to another time and memories flood your brain – even when you’re taking pictures! You are a great photographer!

Thank you, Manelli! London is indeed incredible. We were able to get “groundling” tickets (I believe that’s the term?) at the Globe Theater, which was one of the highlights of my trip in ’07. Can’t wait to go back!

Dear Meg:
Just loved to see your 2009 and 2011 English photos. Do you have any of your first trip? Really cool!

Thank you so much! I do have photos from that first trip in 2007, but I wasn’t very into photography yet . . . in fact, I only took about 80 shots total (!). For comparison’s sake, I took roughly 400 when I was there for a long weekend just a few years later.
