Though we go to see Washington, D.C.’s cherry blossoms every March, this year is especially notable: it’s the 100th anniversary of Japan’s gift of the trees. Tourists packed the bloom-laden sidewalks as we wrapped around the Tidal Basin, dodging a few stray raindrops and enjoying the newly-unveiled Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.
It’s really lovely there — magical. Since we had such a mild winter and early spring in D.C., I’m relieved we made it down to see them! Was thinking it was a little touch-and-go, schedule-wise. If you’ve never been or dream of seeing the city, make sure you go in March. Before it’s 100 degrees. Before the humidity clogs your throat, your nose. While it’s still lovely and fresh. That’s the Washington I like best.

I really love the pictures. They definitely capture the subtle beauty of the cherry blossom. I haven’t been to D.C. in awhile, but I was thinking about going to see the cherry blossoms in bloom at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.

Beautiful photos! That first one I love looking at because it takes you a minute to notice that you’re at the Capitol. The third shot is absolutely stunning (it’s like a photo you would see on an iMac to demonstrate the resolution quality of the screen.) It makes me wish I could play hooky at work for a couple days and travel down to D.C. Thanks for sharing. Have a happy WW and a wonderful Spring!

Lovely photos. The trees are gorgeous, and I’m sure even better in person. We have to wait a little while longer for blossoms here but spring seems to be about two weeks ahead of normal this year.

Gorgeous photos! We had a tree like that in our backyard when I was growing up and our whole neighborhood cried when it was struck by lightening. I’m going to vote for your mom now.

So so gorgeous! And I can see how the Bradford Pears could be confused for Cherry Blossoms. I do love the subtle pink in the blooms, though–something that the Bradford Pears lacks.
