Well, friends, it’s time for me to still my shaking hands and ask you to check out a piece of my fiction: “Spinning White Hair Gold.”
My entry is one of 87 works submitted for the Jane Austen Made Me Do It short story contest, a competition to find a winning story for inclusion in an upcoming collection of Austen-inspired fiction. The Top 10 stories, as voted by the public (you!), will go on for judging by Ballantine, the anthology’s publisher, and Laurel Ann of Austenprose. The winner gets $500 — and is published with the likes of Adriana Trigiani, Lauren Willig, Karen Joy Fowler and many more.
Voting for the best stories is open now through Feb. 28 and I’m hoping — hoping, hoping — you’ll check out the contest entries and, if fitting, vote for me. I’m No. 4 — “Spinning White Hair Gold” by Megan Snider. If you have a moment, please check it out . . . and if you deem me worthy, please vote for me.
At the top of this page, simply click “Click Here To Vote” to cast your ballot. No personal information is necessary and the process will take only a few seconds.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. For considering me; for voting for me; for just reading me. Thanks.
I’m going there right now honey!!! XOXOOX

I voted! Any idea how often we can vote? Is it one-time only or daily?

I really really loved this story (especially as my husband is called Art!!) and voted for it enthusiastically. Parts of it felt like reflections of events in my life which was fun and I appreciated how Persuasion is the thread holding together an original and loveable story. Please write a book, or more stories, or more stories in a book. I can’t wait to read more.

Thank you, Kath — that means a lot to me! I appreciate you checking it out and am so glad you liked it. I’ve been toying with the idea of expanding it into something resembling a novel . . . I’ll keep you posted!

Meg, I just finished your story (directed there via Nat’s Twitter link) and saying I loved it would be an understatement. I’m off to vote for you now. Here’s to hoping you win – and if not, I know you will in future. Keep up the great work!
