I really liked this one, although I didn't really connect to Maggie at all and thought the other storylines were more interesting. The idea that P&P may have been based on real people didn't bother me, as the book is fictional and doesn't affect my feelings about Austen or her characters and books at all. Great review, and I appreciate your honest assessment.

I know you didn't love this one, and totally understand the reasons. I think if, as you mentioned, you look at it as a post-war story rather than an Austen story, you might like it better.

This is a very hard book to review especially if you're a JA fan but you pulled it off well! Neutral review, I should say.

I believe my opinion would be the same as yours.

I usually can't get with the Austen sequels. I just like the real ones so much. Now if Syrie James would write one in the same style that she wrote The Secret Diaries of Charlotte Bronte, I would be in heaven!

I'd not actually heard of this book before but I can see where you're coming from, slightly upsetting thinking of Austen just copying real people instead of it just being her shere genius :-)
